Established in 1996, the KAI Department of Design confers Bachelors and Masters degrees in graphic and product design. The Department prepares universal artists, capable of working in the areas of graphic, object and environmental design.
Today design is one of the most important artistic fields that significantly changes our living environment. Designers investigate human interaction with things and visual environment taking into account aesthetic, functional, ergonomic and psychological factors. Because of the wide applicability of their skills, designers are much in demand in todays job market.
In the Bachelors Program students acquire strong skills in 3D modeling, graphic design, computer design and other areas essential for design practice. Students are taught by assigning increasingly more complex tasks and projects from year to year.
Masters Program students choose a more focused specialization from the areas of graphic design, furniture design, product design, environment design, advertising or others. The Masters Program involves not only attaining designing mastery but also research on economic feasibility, and on social and historic context of the proposed project.
Since faculty members of the Department have extensive experience of working in design market, they often consult students on practical implementation of their projects. The best design projects by the Department students are annually displayed in the national exhibition center LITEXPO in Vilnius, and many other venues.
The KAI Design Department maintains strong professional contacts with the Einhoven Design Academy and Gerrit Rietveld Academy (the Netherlands), Radom University of Technology (Poland), and design organizations of Lippe County, Germany. Since 2002 the Department of Design is a member the international graphic design association IKOGRAD.
