![]() Drawing its traditions from the pre-war Kaunas Art School, the present Department of Architecture was established in 1971. Today the Architecture Program taught at the Kaunas Art Faculty enjoys great popularity and attracts a large number of applicants every year. Architectural projects developed by the graduates and students of the Department have received a number of prestigious awards in national and international architectural competitions. The Architecture Program allows students to gain expertise and practical skills in designing, constructing and reconstructing private and public buildings and their interiors. The students also acquire competence in solving problems of contemporary architecture and urban design. The strong side of the KAF Architecture Program is its faculty whose members are either recognized practitioners or distinguished theoreticians of architecture. They help the students to master subtleties of building and interior design and to comprehend scientific and aesthetic principles of architectural practice. The architecturally rich environment of Kaunas City, established in 1362, reveals diverse stages of the citys historic development and serves as an excellent laboratory to study architecture from nature and to design public spaces, buildings and interiors following the requirements of a particular architectural setting.
