Kaunas Art Faculty is a Kaunas branch of Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts. The Faculty confers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in studio art, design and architecture programs. Bearing on the traditions of Kaunas Art School, established in 1922, Kaunas Art Institute serves as a major regional art education center, which draws applicants from about 30 districts of the country. The Faculty annually awards about 60 Bachelor’s and 30 Master’s Degree diplomas in 16 academic programs. A total number of students in KAF presently stands at over 340.

The KAF’s mission is to prepare creatively and technically qualified artists, designers and architects. Students acquire high professional skills working in studios and labs, and carrying out practical assignments, while studies of the humanities and social sciences develop their critical and conceptual thinking.

The KAF consists of leading Kaunas artists, designers, architects and humanities scholars, who actively participate on the Lithuanian art scene. The strong side of the studies at KAF is close collaboration between faculty members and students in both academic studio training and outside-of-school artistic projects.

Studies in the second largest Lithuanian city of Kaunas opens up excellent opportunities for students to use resources of city’s public and university libraries for research projects, and to stay in touch with contemporary art developments by attending and participating in exhibitions in numerous public and private galleries of Kaunas. An immense resource to study Lithuanian art in Kaunas is the National M. K. Èiurlionis Museum of Art with its premier national art collection and extensive archives. As a part of institutional cooperation scheme, every year Kaunas Art Faculty organizes an exhibition of the students’ diploma works in the Kaunas Picture Gallery of the Èiurlionis Museum.

Located in Kaunas Old Town, Kaunas Art Faculty frequently cooperates in exhibition projects with neighboring galleries: Kaunas Gallery of Lithuanian Artists’ Association, Eglë Gallery, Al Gallery, Gallery of Textile Artists’ Guild, and others. Joint educational projects are carried out with the Justinas Vienoþinskis Art Study Center of Kaunas College, Antanas Martinaitis School of Art, Kaunas Applied Arts School and other institutions.

Today Kaunas Art Faculty is a stimulating environment for professional advancement, innovative thinking, and creative freedom.

Kaunas Art Faculty of Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts communicates with the Kasimir Pulaski Technical Iniversity of Radom (Poland). On 12 October, 2006, Dean of KAF assoc. prof.
